Being myself an old crocodile in the classic car scene has some advantages. One of these advantages is that I know quite a few fellow classic car fanatics who, in a time when classic cars were not yet listed as an excellent alternative investement, just collected and restored these classic cars out of passion. And this regardless of costs.
This Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider comes from such a person, who only because he is madly in love with Italian sportscars, bought, patiently restored (twice) and enjoyed for many many years this original Belgian Alfa Romeo since 1984. Yes, 35 years in a row!
Chassis 3131 was produced in 1960 and sold new to Belgium in 1961 through the official Belgian Alfa Romeo importer Novarobel. First owner Felix Luthers from Etterbeek-Brussels registered his brandnew Spider 2000 on the 6-th of September 1961 and enjoyed his Alfa Romeo for 20 years.
My classic car friend found this Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider in 1984 in a somehow derelict condition in the barn of the St-Vith Alfa Romeo dealer when spending some holidays with his family in the East of Belgium. At that time this Alfa Romeo was considered more as a secondhand car than a future classic.
In the meantime the owner got in touch with Carlo Felice Anderloni, the founder of Carrozzeria Touring. This friendship resulted at the end of the '90s in a second concours restoration this time executed by Carrozzeria Lopane in Milano under the supervision of Mr. Anderloni.
Both restorations, and certainly the 2nd one, are very well documented.
The last owner continued to use his Alfa Romeo to his entire satisfaction for travelling during summer, club meetings and participations to Concours d’Elegance contests. In 2017 this 2000 Spider was awarded Best in Class of the category Alfa Romeo 1960-1999 at the Antwerp Concours d’Elegance.
Comes with sought after original Carrozzeria Touring hard-top.
