Jaguar E-type S1
The story of this Jaguar E-type is a nice story of hope and a lesson to us humans that even at the darkest hour we shouldn’t lose faith…
Initially sold new as many Jaguar E-types to the USA, this Jaguar arrives in the early 80-ies back in Europe, as was the case with many classic sportscars, in the hands of a German enthusiast.
After a vigorous start mainly consisting in dismantling this Jaguar completely the initial energy dries up and leaves chassis number 885771 scattered in 1000 pieces for more than 30 years in a garage in Wegberg.
Until in 2017 a courageous Italian classic car restorer discovers this basket case, understands the potential of this very early Jaguar E-type, and takes-on the challenge to restore this Jaguar “basket case” respecting rigorously the original specifications.
Over a period of 4 years the puzzle comes back together, each peace properly restored, and assembled to this magnificent Jaguar E-type S1 3.8 Coupé. Matching numbers and colours and correct till the smallest details.
Caractéristiques techniques
Chassis number 885771 was produced by Jaguar in March 1962 and is an immediate post-“Flat Floor” model still showing the transition characteristics (straight rear bulkhead, flat boot hinges, etc…) confirming its early production and rarity.
In our opinion the original Opalescent Silver Blue colour combination with the Light Blue leather trim on the stylish early bucket seats together with the alloy finishing on central dashboard and tunnel cover is one of the most attractive liveries one could wish for on a 1-st series E-type!
Add to this the pristine presentation fresh from a very skilled restoration and we can truly speak about a resurrection 59 years after this beauty was born.
After all this hard work and dedication chassis 885771 is ready for the 60 years anniversary festivities all Jaguar E-type owners are longing to participate at.
