Aston Martin's first 8-cylinder convertible made its long awaited appearance in June 1978, almost nine years after the launch of the DBS V8. The first series of the Volante had basically the same enhanced specification as the ‘Oscar India’ coupé which appeared four months later. Only 439 examples of the Weber Carburettor Volante such as this one were built, of which 282 in LHD configuration.
Delivered by Star Motor Cars in Houston - still an official Aston Martin dealership today - this particular Aston Martin V8 was originally Crusader White. Apart from the colour change to a very elegant dark blue and the modification from US specification to the slimmer EU bumpers - two wise decisions in our opinion - it is still entirely faithful to its build sheet.
We've known this car since 2013, when it spent several months in our workshop for a full rebuild of the engine, suspension, gearbox, rear axle, brakes, ... These rebuilds are very well documented, with more than 130 pictures and 55.000 EUR of invoices.
The car has also been re-upholstered in its original light blue leather with dark blue piping.True to Aston Martin's tradition, this is a real luxury tourer: it offers great comfort, while being quite a versatile car to drive. This very smooth muscle car allows for relaxed driving, but simply pressing the gas pedal to the floor awakens the mighty 5.3L V8 engine, resulting in brisk performances and strong sensations!
Easy to look after (with the 4 Weber carburettors instead of a more complex fuel injection system) this supercar offers an exclusive mix of refinement and rarity coupled to the marque's glorious pedigree.
With other convertibles and Volantes climbing to ever-higher prices, this V8 Volante is still an affordable step into the exclusive classic Aston Martin world at 188.000 EUR.
