Designed by Pinin Farina on a modified Sprint Coupe chassis, the Giulietta Spider was Alfa Romeo’s second post-war model. The little two-seat Sports Spider was introduced in 1955 at the insistence of New York importer Max Hoffman, who saw how well small British and German sports cars were being received in America. The Giulietta Spider offered brisk performance (almost 160 km/h) from its free-revving, all-alloy, 1.3-liter twin-cam four, mounted in a steel unibody chassis that weighed less than 862 kg at the curb. The design was unmistakably Pinin Farina: very elegant, sporting, and light.

From the time of its introduction, the Spider provided an exhilarating combination of character and performance, within the limits of what was possible with the well-designed twin-cam engine. However, as with pre-war Alfa Romeos, the dealers soon saw a demand for an uprated version for buyers with competition in mind. Consequently, the Spider ‘Veloce' appeared in 1956, with a high-performance engine and modified bodywork. High-crown pistons raised the compression ratio to 9.1:1 which, with a pair of twin-choke Weber carburetors and more peaky camshaft profiles, raised the power by approximately 15%. Performance was certainly improved, with a top speed of 185 km/h and a more responsive engine through and through. Just 1,203 Giulietta Spider Veloce's were produced, and they remain among the most collectible of the model today.

Three years ago our classic car workshop completely sorted-out this Giulietta Spider Veloce for the second last Belgian owner (regardless of costs), after which this Alfa Romeo performed faultlessly at several high profile classic car rallies.

This car does not feel like it is 64 years old because it is just so easy to drive, with a modern-feeling five-speed transmission and a light clutch.  Many such open cars of this era have sporty looks but few can match the charm and charisma of this Alfa Romeo, nor its modern driving feel.  It's a very usable, collectable car and will surely be an automotive investment gem of the future.

This tip-top condition Giulietta Spider Veloce (with confirmation by FCA Certificate) in the very attractive colour combination of the typical light blue Celeste (baby blue) with matching leather trim is ready for many more kilometres of open top motoring fun.

Our classic car friends know that over the years Marreyt Classic Cars has developed a weak spot for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider. We gladly welcome you to exchange thoughts & to discover this baby blue sweetheart at our showroom in Aalst near Brussels !
