1959 Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato 1st Series - Competition Spec

Unmistakably Zagato. A spectacle of body lines that are both attractive and aerodynamic. We readily admit it at Marreyt Classic Cars, that we have a soft spot for the Flaminia Sport Zagato.

This early 1st Series, or Pre-series called, is the Flaminia Zagato in its purest design and 1 of 99 units ever built. A masterpiece mined from the collaboration between Elio Zagato and Ercole Spada.

A rare piece of Lancia history would you think? But what if we tell you it becomes even more unique?

This is one of only a handful of Sport Zagato's that came with a number of factory 'competition upgrades'; including:

  • 2.5L V6 engine with higher compression (150 hp)
  • Gearbox with modified ratios
  • 3C (3 x carburettors)
  • Perspex (Plexiglas) side and rear windows
  • Full aluminium door handles
  • Lightweight Zagato sports bucket seats
  • ...

As far as we know, only 5 units would have been built with these modifications from the factory.

Besides these modifications, the car is also in its original rare colour combination of Bluette Petrol with grey leather interior.

Rumours circulate that due to its low weight of around 1100 kilograms and its high-performance V6 engine with three carburettors, this Flaminia model was capable of triumphing over a Ferrari 250GT.

This Flaminia Zagato received a restoration some time ago by Italy's best specialists for bodywork, interior and mechanical restoration. These works took about four years.

To make the car's driving experience even more comfortable, the last owner decided to make some improvements, using only original Flaminia parts. He bought a complete 2.8-litre Flaminia Supersport engine from a later series Flaminia Zagato, with the larger 40 mm carburettors and a Supersport transaxle (fitted with different ratios) and had it fitted by Lancia specialist Omicron Engineering of Mulbarton, Norwich.

After enjoying the car for a while, he had the engine further tuned and tuned by the highly respected Jim Stokes Workshops of Waterlooville, Hampshire. They brought the power to 180 bhp and 191 ft/lbs of torque. Important to know; the car was thus fitted with a larger 2.8 3C Flaminia Supersport engine and is sold including its original matching numbers 2.5L 'Competition' engine and powertrain.

One of the most beautiful and rare cars ever built. We believe this car will leave few people unmoved and is a must-have for someone looking for a breathtaking and spectacular piece.
