Alfa Romeo Sprint
Interesting for anybody walking into the Marreyt Classics showroom is the fact that at the moment we have on show two almost identical sister Sprint models both in Bianco Antico.
Side by side we show a 1961 2000 Sprint with a 1964 2600 Sprint!
The 2600 Sprint being the big sister of the 2000 Sprint and made more of an impression on the gentleman-driver (6.999 ex. of the 2600 were sold versus only 704 ex. for the 2000 Sprint). This large grand touring coupé could seat four adults in comfort over long journeys at high speeds thanks to the wide power and torque band of the new six-cylinder engine. Added to the greater space and comfort, those virtues made a convincing case for the 2600 Sprint.
The car also inherited the sharp, modern styling of its predecessor, the 2000 Sprint, and that also contributed to its being the top seller in the 2600 range. That shape had been the result of Giorgetto Giugiaro's first major project as head designer for Carrozzeria Bertone, and is arguably one of the most influential designs in the history of automotive styling.
Technical details
When examining this particular Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint, the ultra sound condition makes it clear that this grand touring coupé lived a sheltered life in Italy with only two previous owners registered in the charming original “Libretto” which comes with the car together with the original “Alfa Romeo Libretto di Servizio”. Also the still original but undamaged black leather interior, which shows a superb patina, confirms this impression.
Another nice period touch is the original Stuttgart Blaupunkt radio of which we still possess the period documentation (instruction of use - guaranty card – Service booklet – etc).
