What a pleasure to see this prewar top-range saloon back in our classic car stable. This ultra rare Vanden Plas pillarless 4,3 saloon was once the property of a couple of well known British Alvis enthusiasts, before my Swedish classic Alvis friend Charlie took her with him to Scandinavia. During the cars' life in Britain, the original engine had been replaced "temporarely" by a 4,2 L Jaguar 6 cylinder unit. Luckily the original Alvis engine stayed all these years patiently aside the car. It was clear that allthough this Alvis-Jaguar combination proved to be very enjoyable, the original 4,3 engine had to be fitted back sooner or later into the Vanden Plas saloons' engine bay. This job was done in Sweden in a first stage. In a second stage, the 4,3 saloons' new owner here in Belgium, prepared her in detail and regardless of costs for participation at the though Winter Marathon rally. Going through this voluminous job list, shows convincingly the tip top mechanical condition this 4,3 Alvis is in at present. In the total of nearly 200 4,3 Alvis models which left the factory only a handful Vanden Plas pillarless saloons were constructed. This rare survivor with elegant airstream design offers a future new owner, apart from the mighty 4,3 mechanics, a somptuous and comfortable interior to enjoy.
