The Mercedes SL’s have long represented the pinnacle of two-seater, open-topped Mercedes motoring. Mostly they have been superlative tourers rather than scalpel-sharp driving machines, but that doesn’t make them any less desirable. In fact, it makes them more sought after. The focus lies on usability, so you get a decent level of practicality, comfort and performance to make long-distance drives an effortless affair.

In all of its various forms the W113, designed by French designer Paul Braq, must be one of the most aspirational classics available. Due to its unique concave hardtop shape, it got its nickname ‘Pagoda’ which makes one think of roofs from Far Eastern temples.

The W113 was produced from 1963 to 1971, evolving through 3 engine variants 2.3L, 2.5L and 2.8L.

The 230SL was designed as a bridge between the racy but extravagantly expensive 300SL “gullwing,” and the pretty but under-powered 190SL. Compared to the racer-for-the-street that the 300SL was, the 230SL was a more gentle car. It had all the sports car ingredients including a multi-point fuel-injected straight-six engine, two seats, four-wheel independent suspension and a removable top. But these components were wrapped in what remains one of the most graceful bodies to date. Like scotch in a fine tumbler, it just looks right.

Now Marreyt Classic Cars is happy to offer you this manual 230SL from 1965. It was restored by our personal coachbuilder which is a immense Mercedes enthusiast. The man has 35 years of experience as a coachbuilder, and you can witness this in the result of this breathtaking restoration ! Finished in fantastic blue metallic in combination with a ‘Tan’ coloured full leather interior. It has just only driven 50km’s since the restoration.

A well sorted classic Mercedes cannot do without an original ‘Becker Europa’ radio. The steering wheel may be on the large side, but it does exactly what you want it to do. Needless to say this 230SL drives flawlessly and super-smooth, the engine hums beautifully, there are no crazy squeaks or creaks and the suspension feels nicely balanced and sporty in a pleasant way. This car doesn't feel like it was designed in the early '60s !

Not a fan of manual gearbox cruisers ? We are also offering an automatic and more powerful 280SL !

And the good news is that both of them are on display together in our Experience Room in Knokke Belgium, so don’t hesitate and come & see, feel and hear them in person!
