1968 Porsche 911 2.0L SWB - Rare sunroof model
When the curtain was pulled back on a brand new Porsche model at the 1963 Frankfurt International Motor Show, few could have predicted the huge influence it would have on the car industry in the decades to come. Its name was the 901. Today, it is better known as the legendary 911, whose name was changed before it was launched.
In the 60 years between 1963 and now, more than 1.2 million 911 sports cars have been made. Each and every one of them is proof of Porsche's endless pursuit of innovation, especially when it comes to delivering one unforgettable ride after another.
We are proud to present another stunning car from our stock. This early Porsche 911 belongs to the first series with a short wheelbase, also known as 'Short Wheelbase' (SWB). SWB 911s are considered the 'primal 911', as the design is closest to the original idea of the 901, thus approximating the basic concept of the 356's successor.
This Porsche 911 SWB is a fresh appearance and you may take this literally. Because with the rare sunroof that this car was originally delivered with, you will enjoy fresh cooling during hot days. In addition, you also benefit from the open feeling in the cockpit without having to detract from the beautiful 911 coupé line.
Originally delivered in the United States in February 1968. The return trip to the European continent, where the story began some 46 years earlier, did not take place until 2014. The last owner bought the car then as a project. For him, the combination of a short-chassis 911 with the sunroof were the decisive factor to commission a complete nuts & bolts restoration between 2015 and 2018.
During the restoration, the car was painted in Bahama Gelb 6805 and it was chosen to combine this with a half-leather 'Pepita' upholstery. The Sportomatic gearbox was then replaced with a dogleg 5-speed gearbox of the correct type and year. The original gearbox is still present with the car.
Meanwhile, we are several years after the restoration, the car drove just over 6,000 km since then and is still in very nice condition to this day. This is a great opportunity to get your hands on a good quality restored car at the right price.
